It's time for the Durham Orchestra YANKEE CANDLE Fundraiser!!!! 

Dear Parents and students, please help out with our program funds by participating in our YANKEE CANDLE fundraiser. Additionally, if anybody would rather donate money instead of buying items, this is totally acceptable! 

The sale starts: Monday September 24, 2012
The sale ends: Friday October 5, 2012
Delivery will be the week before Thanksgiving.

Complete the form with a Pen.  Collect the money at the time of the order.  Students: Remember, please only talk to people that you know. 

Collection:
~Collect money up front. To help alleviate the extra check processing for our AMAZING bookkeeper, customers should pay in cash or make checks payable to the student’s parent. 
~The parent should then make 1 check payable to Durham Middle School. Double check that you have the same amount of money as the order that you are placing.
~Put the check/cash in a school deposit envelope. Label the envelope as “Orchestra Fundraiser” with student name.
~Put the envelope in the Metal Safe in the hallway by the Durham Media Center on or before October 5, 2012.
~Turn the order forms in to your orchestra teacher on or before October 5, 2012. Keep the PINK copy for yourself.
~Yankee Prizes will be received with the product arrival.

8th Grade:  We are continuing to work in higher positions and shifting.  "Chronicles of Narnia" is coming right along!  We also have started working on a piece called "Night Shift" to reinforce what students are learning about shifting.

8th Grade Disney Trip:  Signed letters of intent and $100 deposit is due tomorrow (9/20).

7th Grade:  Students should be practicing their music for our concert in October, "Forrest Gump."  Also, we are working on dotted rhythms and 8th notes.  Students should be work towards being proficient at playing #26 - #47 in Essential Elements 2.

6th Grade:  This week we are concentrating on bow holds and bow movement.  Students should try to practice shaping bow holds at home in order to reinforce what they are learning in class.  Also, students should practice plucking the D major scale.  Students should be able to play #10 - #22 in Essential Elements 1.

Orchestra Assessments this week

8th Grade:  Students will be evaluated on their 2 octave D Major scale & arpeggio.

7th Grade:  Students will be evaluated on their ability to name notes with attention to key signatures.

6th Grade:  Students will be evaluated on their left hand technique, and their ability to play & identify all of the notes in their D Major Scale.

8th Grade:  The main repertoire that we are working on is "Chronicles Of Narnia" arranged by Larry Moore.  Students can listen to a recording by clicking here.  We are also working on shifting techniques and playing in higher positions.  We continue to work through Mr. Ray's warm-ups.

7th Grade:  Students should be practicing through book 2.  We are working in G Major and C Major.  We are also continuing to learn Mr. Ray's warm-ups.

6th Grade:  We are focusing on left hand position and technique.  Students should be able to name all open strings.  Students should also be able to identify and play D, E, F#, and G.  Practice should also include reading & playing through track #9 in the book.
